it’s the only place you
have to live.”

Meet Dr. Caryn April
MBChB (UCT), FIPP, DipPEC (SA) | MP 0734950 PR 0714259
I’m Dr Caryn April, a specialised medical and interventional pain physician. I am passionate about inclusive, patient-centred care and chronic pain management.
I have practiced medicine for more than 15 years and have vast experience in pain medicine, emergency medicine and general surgery during my time at various government and private hospitals throughout South Africa.
The cornerstone of my pain clinic is helping patients with evidence-informed treatment options and focusing on medical treatments and minimally invasive interventional pain procedures, as an alternative to surgery and addictive pain medication.
My philosophy is summarised by this quote by Dr Edward Livingston Trudeau – “To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always”. Being a doctor is not only being able to memorise textbooks or having the best clinical or surgical skill set. It is a privilege and a calling to walk a journey with a patient and their family. Studying textbooks, practicing skills on cadavers, completing fellowship examinations are all important in saving lives. However, there is more to being a doctor than just saving lives. It is about the physician’s ability to be a vessel of kindness, compassion, empathy and ultimately provide comfort. Every patient is entitled to a physician who cares. My purpose is to provide this to every patient I encounter. My mission is to restore their hope and improve their overall quality of life.
